The Skywatcher Esprit 120ED PRO is an apochromatic triplet refractor that offers high performance for demanding astrophotographers. The objective lens features an element of extra-low dispersion glass (ED) that minimizes the chromatic aberration for the best colour correction.
The 3" linear power focuser is solid and backlash-free, with zero image shift. It operates at two speeds due to the 11:1 reduction mechanism for extra fine focusing adjustment, which is paramount for astrophotography and high resolution observations. The knobs have been redesigned to allow smooth and accurate usage, even with gloves. The integrated rotator makes framing targets quick and easy.
The objective lens is fully multi coated with Skywatcher's proprietary new "Metallic High-Transmission Coating" (MHC) for an effective anti-reflection result that approaches a transmission of 99.5%. The aluminium tube has knife-edge baffles and is blackened to ensure high contrast and absorbing stray light.
The Esprit 120ED includes a two element field flattener, correcting the frame for field curvature and providing a 40mm imaging circle, making it suitable for large sensors.

The Esprit 120ED is a beautifully built piece of equipment and comes with a flattener, and a robust case that should protect it forever.
Stars are round right across the field. Coupled with the Prima Luce Sesto Senso II electronic focuser (which I bought at the same time) the whole setup does its job effortlessly. Images so far show the promise of many more great nights to come.
Testar were able to answer all my questions about the 120ED and my proposed image train and (thanks, Jamie) attention to details I had not even pondered.
