The Askar 80PHQ is a professional apochromatic flatfield Petzval quadruplet with a focal ratio of f/7.5 and a corrected field of 44mm in diameter.
The Askar 80PHQ includes two Extra Low Dispersion glass elements for superb correction of chromatic aberration.
Differently from standard ED refractors, the Askar 80PHQ features a Petzval design that does not require to set the sensor to a specific distance to the last lens. That leaves the freedom to use any filter wheel, any off-axis guider or accessory without any worry to calculate the correct distance from the flattener.
With a large 44mm fully corrected image circle and a focal ratio of f/7.5, this is the perfect astrograph for the advanced astrophotographer. The large rack and pinion 3" focuser can be rotated 360° to perfectly frame the subject and has a reduction gear of 10:1 for precise focusing.
All the lenses are fully multi-coated and the tube is internally flocked to reduce reflections and absorb stray light. The tube is made of CNC-machined aluminium, the rack and pinion focusing mechanism of brass and the mechanical components are engineered to provide the best rigidity, performance and durability.

The ASKAR 80PHQ is a really well designed, built and importantly a very capable telescope. I was attracted by the promise of a flat 44 mm image circle and not having to fine tune backfocus in a portable package. Getting it up and running was very painless, I attached a Primaluce Sesto Senso, a QHY128C full frame camera and mounted to my Eagle controller. The field is flat - corner to corner and required no tilt adjustment. My only minor criticism is that with the M54 adaptor attached to my camera the focus draw tube is almost fully extended when achieving focus. I used a M54 extender tube so I could move the focuser draw tube in. Its not a big issue but I wonder about movement with the camera so far away from the focuser. Attached is my 1st test image, the Seagull Nebula.
Very nice scope for my first refractor. Sharp images out to the edges, with very little aberration. I like that it is back focus insensitive for a beginner like me. Well made, feels very solid but not too heavy. I would like an extra mounting point, I'm using the existing one for my ASI AIR+. Image is with this scope and an ASI533MC Pro, 20x3mins on an AM5 mount.
My first impressions of this scope are very good. It is solid in all aspects of construction. I like the focuser as it is very stable and has graduations for focus travel and for angular position of the focus tube which is handy for aligning your sensor with a particular object. The image field in my ZWO 294mm Pro is flat throughout. it was very easy to attach a ZWO EAF to the telescope. I like the provision for attachment of extra items on the telescopes fitments and telescope body. Delivery from Sunday to Brisbane was very efficient as I was updated on the progress of the shipment at regular intervals which gave me peace of mind. I'm going to enjoy this telescope.
